John Bytheway is a tremendous writer. His books are easy to read and very easy to understand the message. I have been going through a very difficult time the last several months, and his book give me a new perspective on the trials I am facing. It is NOT a book sends you to various scriptures with hopes of finding a answer; it is a book that will give you a scripture quote and tell you how to use the information in the scripture, and how it applies. It is good to pick up for 5 minutes, or sit down and read a few chapters.It is a GREAT HELP for anyone needing and looking for spiritual strength to get through the daily dramas we face.

John is always a good choice! The book arrived perfect and early!
I have this on my - it was one of the first books I downloaded - and I love it. This is the kind of book you can read again and again and gain something new each time. The five scriptures teach solid principles and will be a comfort to anyone undergoing trials - which is all of us. We each have our own problems and trials and we can all use this book as a source of hope and comfort. It is a book you can read before trials strike so you can be prepared; while in crisis so you can be comforted; and after the crisis is over so you can better understand why we have trials. John Bytheway brings a message of God's love for us that should give everyone hope for the future, and some practical advice to help us make our lives better on a daily basis.
Although I'm not a great fan of the author, I found this book to have several gems that helped phrase sometimes old ideas in new ways. Loved the book!
I listened to the talk before I bought the book. The problem was that, each time I bought the talk on cd, I ended up giving it away to someone who really needed it. John Bytheway makes points that I haven't heard in other talks or books about comfort and finding strength. God still loves us, he weeps when we go through trials, and he knows the end result even if we can't see it. This is a great book for youth and adults, and an absolute for anyone who has ever gone through a gut-wrenching, life-changing hardship. A perfect resource for future talks and lessons, as it gives scriptures with explanations for some of the best doctrine in the Gospel.

John Bytheway has done it again. A great book that touches the heart and opens the mind and gets you to re-access yourself!
John Bytheway based this book on a talk he was invited to give to the Columbine High School seminary class shortly after the tragic shooting spree at their school in 1999. He focuses on the messages in the scriptures that will strengthen and comfort us in the face of life's hardest challenges.
The five key scriptures he has selected are discussed in the first chapter
1. "[We] know that [God] loveth his children" (1 Nephi 1117)
2. We know that God allows evil to exist in the world (Moses 726-33)
3. "Our work is not finished" (Alma 1413)
4. The Atonement is not just for sinners (Alma 711-12)
5. One day the Lord will reveal all things (D&C 10132-36)
Reading and reflecting on the implications of these scriptures reminds us to have an eternal perspective on the challenges of this life. And ask for strength and wisdom to deal with them. In the book's remaining chapters, Bytheway extends his "five key scriptures" approach to the ones that help strengthen marriage, improve family relationships, strengthen faith, and motivate us to act.
This is a good book that you should read during the calm times before adversity finds you. You will be better equipped to meet it. And understand it. Note that the author writes to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ("Mormons"). Readers from other religious traditions may not find his book as accessible.
